The AI Visibility Audit Checklist
This is the exact checklist we run in the first week of every engagement. You can run it yourself in an afternoon. Score one point per item you can honestly tick.
Part 1 — What the engines say today
- Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI the five questions your best customer would ask before buying. Record every business named.
- You appear in at least one answer.
- The description of you is accurate (products, positioning, price band).
- A competitor does not own more than half of your category's answers.
- Asking about your brand by name returns current, correct information.
Part 2 — Machine readability
- Your homepage states what you do, for whom, and where, in plain text (not only in images or JS-rendered content).
- Product/service pages carry structured data (schema.org) that validates.
- Your name, address, offer, and claims are consistent across your site, socials, and directories.
- Robots.txt does not block AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot…).
- Key pages render their full content in raw HTML — view-source, not the browser, is what a crawler sees.
Part 3 — Corroboration
- You have fresh third-party reviews (last 90 days) on at least one platform models cite.
- At least three independent sites mention your business in your category context.
- Your best proof (results, certifications, awards) exists on a public, linkable page.
- Someone searching "you + reviews" finds a current, mostly positive picture.
- Every marketing claim you publish links to something that backs it.
Scoring
12–15: you're ahead — compound it. 7–11: structural gaps are costing you answers you could win this quarter. 0–6: your category's AI answers are being written without you.
